A project-based learning school | Friendship, Pittsburgh PA
Coordinator Steve Lee | Professor Stefani Danes
Spring 2016 | Carnegie Mellon University

A project-based learning school that has a strong connection with nature to foster the learning of the children. A spacious greenery atrium sits at the center of the school to achieve such design intention. The classrooms and offices, which are the main private programs and the most utilized programs within the school, are situated in the northern region of the site to maximize sunlight exposure. The central vertical circulation occurs within the atrium itself so as to amplify the engagement of the students with the greenery. Through providing various study spaces, the school allows students to explore different ways of studying and figuring out what works best for them, such as individual study kiosks in the library and the outdoor learning space.
